Strengthening public engagement and accountability around the Right to Food.
Timeline: January 2011 – December 2012 | Location: Backward districts of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh
Context:
Food security remains closely linked to issues of poverty, exclusion, and unequal access to welfare systems. Marginalised communities in economically disadvantaged districts often face barriers in accessing entitlements, grievance redressal mechanisms, and public distribution systems intended to support basic needs and nutrition.
Project Approach:
The project supported initiatives related to the Right to Food campaign by strengthening public awareness, facilitating grievance redressal, and generating dialogue around food security issues. It worked alongside the Andhra Pradesh State Advisors to the Supreme Court-appointed National Commissioners for the Right to Food case, focusing on vulnerable communities across identified backward districts.

Key Learnings:
Why This Matters: Food security is a fundamental right closely tied to dignity, health, and social justice. The project worked to strengthen awareness, accountability, and access to welfare systems for communities most vulnerable to exclusion.
