Title: Organizational Development of Mahila Sanatkar

Project Description:Mahila Sanatkar is a handloom and handicraft cooperative society based in theold city of Hyderabad providing training and employment opportunities to Muslim women. As anenterprise, Mahila Sanatkar has successfully formed a niche for itself within the vibrant handloom andhandicraft sector in India. Mahila Sanatkar is now looking to extend its reach to many other Muslim women who otherwise have little economic opportunities. This would require that they address issuesof capacity building, management efficiency and marketing. Yugantar, with the help of Ford Foundationis facilitating development of Mahila Sanatkar.

Title: SRTT – CPOD

Project Description: With a substantial increase in the number of large scale non-profit organizations, the scope of OD initiatives has widened. A need to build on the existing knowledge available in the sector, has led to the establishment of a Community of Practitioners of Organizational Development (C-POD) to share experiences and learn from collective reflection. An outcome of this effort was the documentation of examples of OD efforts in the development sector. The first volume of 5 case studies titled, “Roopantaran – 3D views on Institution Building” is under publication. Work on the next set of case studies revolving around the theme of challenges in CBO development is in progress.

Title:Professional Development program for Social Entrepreneurs in Hyderabad

Project Description: Social-Impact is a new international professional development program. Their goal is to accelerate growth and increase impact of social entrepreneurs' projects and/or organizations. ThinkSoft Consultants is the strategic partner for Social-Impact International on its Professional Development program for Social Entrepreneurs in Hyderabad. We provided local partnership needed for training coordination and technical assistance to 15 selected Social Entrepreneurs for scaling up their business plans.

Title: Managerial Development Programmes (CADA)

Partner/Client: Command Area Development Authority (CADA)

Project Description: The irrigation department has been exploring appropriate ways to enhance the managerial skills of engineers. An action research project was initiated to assess the challenges faced by the engineers in the canal system and identify management concepts tools and techniques relevant to their context. Two workshops were held with E-in-Cs, CEs and SEs. Based on the feedback from the workshops and research work, three concepts were identified as crucial for the engineer in O&M.

Based on this an approach strategy for facilitating internal role transformation within the Irrigation Department in AP was developed.

Title: Farmers' Training Initiative for CADA

Partner/Client: Command Area Development Authority, Department of Irrigation, A.P.

Date: 2006

Project Description: An initiative supported by the Command Area Development Authority (CADA), Department of Irrigation, Government of Andhra Pradesh to train farmers in more efficient use of available water resources. The training is centered on the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) technology developed in Madagascar by local NGOs in collaboration with Cornell International Institute for Food, Agriculture and Development (CIIFAD). We have coordinated the training activities for two canals, which irrigate 30,000 hectares, covering 15,000 agricultural families in the first year and a total of 120,000 agricultural families over the next two years, in our area.

Title: Regional Rural Banks

Partner/Client: Care India

Date: July to December, 2003

Project Description: An OD project for a rural financial institute located in an impoverished area, supported by a year-long programme of Organization Development Programme by CARE-CASHE, for the Koraput and Kalahandi Regional Rural Banks, two chronically loss making RRBs in the country. The project involved a detailed participative diagnosis, followed by decentralized action planning and change initiatives managed by a group of change facilitators. The effort was to engage as many staff members as possible in the process and encouraging them to go out into the field, to interact directly with customers, defaulting borrowers, and SHG members. The insights thus gained, shaped the change agenda and the assessment of the impact revealed a tangible impact on the working of the two Banks.
